For my piece, Sakura Grove, I used a variety of glass and other materials to create texture and play off the changing light in my clients’ home on Cape Cod. The materials used were: mother of pearl, Murano millefiori, pearls, stained glass, Van Gogh glass and various types of glass tiles (iridescent, vitreous and crystal). Each piece of glass was hand-cut to suit the different elements of the design.

I decided to use a triptych format similar to a Japanese three-paneled screen to harmonize with the aesthetic in my clients’ home. I also wanted to capture the tranquility of their waterfront setting. Although each panel stands alone, the story is continuous and flows smoothly from one piece to the next. The fish in the center panel is my interpretation of a striped bass that my clients caught on their boat.
